Dominican Republic wins flights between Santo Domingo and Barahona

Travelers can reach the ecotourism destination with more convenience

República Dominicana, voos Santo Domingo, BarahonaSince early July, the Dominican Republic has scheduled flights connecting the capital Santo Domingo to Barahona, located southwest of the country and recognized by biodiversity and ecotourism options.

Operated by Air Century, the flights take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing from La Isabela International Airport in Santo Domingo, the international airport and Maria Montez in Barahona. For those who are in Punta Cana and want to discover the charms of Barahona, there are also options for Century Air flights leaving on Wednesdays and Fridays, connecting in Santo Domingo.

Barahona is the ideal place for day trips, especially by contact with an almost untouched nature. With pristine beaches and preserved forest, the city was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). With great potential in tourism development, the destination offers adventure activities, recreation and culture very different from other coastal destinations popular with tourists and Dominicans, as Punta Cana, La Romana and Samana.

According to Mauricio Vianna, director of the Office of Tourism of the Dominican Republic in Brazil, Barahona is the future of tourism in the country. "Ecotourism is the attraction of the region, which is still poorly explored, with areas untouched. The inauguration of this flight makes possible greater access to this ecological paradise full of natural beauties," he says.

Among the attractions of Barahona are the Lake Enriquillo - with 300 square kilometers in length and 42 meters below sea level - where live crocodiles, flamingos and iguanas. There is also a scenic road that cuts through the beaches and coastline, the mines of Larimar (semiprecious stone typical Dominican), among others.

Barahona is near Pedernales, another city of ecotourism, which houses the Hoyo de Pelempito, an impressive ecological depression located in the Sierra de Neiba, and the beaches of Cabo Rojo and Bahía de las Aguilas
